Storm Surge - The Greatest Threat

USA Today has an article discussing how storm surge, and not wind, is the deadliest aspect of a hurricane and is the greatest threat to US coastal communities.  The information comes from the National Hurricane Center in Miami.  Worth a read.  This issue is sure to come up at the TIPS Spring Meeting in Charleston, South Carolina on May 17, 2012, when the TIPS Disaster Initiative will put on a program discussing Disasters Caused by Acts of Nature.  For more information about all the TIPS Disaster Preparedness and Response Initiative programs, please visit our Disaster Initiative home page.
